Attempting to build, repair, fabricate, and implement ideas to save time and money. The main focus will be my tractor, vehicles, tools, and projects around the house.
I called my channel "Mike attempts" because this is just my hobby and I often have no prior experience when starting a project. Even though I try to put a lot of thought into the things I do, my way probably isn't always gonna be the best way and it definitely isn't the only way.
Thanks for watching,

Mazda 6 One-Person Brake Fluid Flush
Bleeding the brakes on a 2018 Mazda 6. Mazda recommends flushing your brake fluid every 2 years. Bleeding brakes usually takes 2 people, one to loosen and tighten the bleeder screw and one person to work the brake pedal. A one-person bleeder bottle with a one-way check valve makes the job much faster and easier. See links below for the parts and tools I used:

Is there any similar mod for the dexely?
Good video. I use a Motive one man pressure tank that connects to the reservoir so you don’t run out of fluid, and love it. I also discovered that you don’t usually need to remove the wheels, at least not on my Camry, CR-V, RAV4, & Tundra. You can get to the bleeder screws from the front or back, often without jacking up the vehicle much or at all.
you cut the old race off but you didn't show how to put the new one in ???
The part I cut off had separated from the old bearing by design. So, it was already intact on the new bearing.
I’m finishing up a welding program, if I get that that thing it’ll see some use. Love the restoration videos keep up the great work.
Thanks, good luck!
You're having much better luck with that than I did, I ended up making a knock off Motive Products pressure bleeder out of a garden sprayer, I had tried every type of vacuum method and just could not get the bleeder screws to stop letting air past the threads, even with teflon tape. Maybe it's because the masters on trucks create more vacuum.
I actually got one of those vacuum bleeders where you attach your air compressor hose to create suction but then I found this bottle, so I never tried the vac one. The bottle is much less complicated and has worked perfectly to bleed brakes on 2 different cars and also 1 clutch.
@@Mikeattempts do the threads on your bleeder screws have some sort of thread sealing compound?
@@criticalevent No, not that I noticed. However, I only need to crack open each bleeder around 1/4 - 1/3 turn for optimal bleeding so I think there's still a lot of thread engagement.
Thanks! I never knew, and always wondered what happened to the little bits of stuff left on a plate. Great job of teaching!
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad the video was helpful!

Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it!
Perfect repairs
Thanks!
Hi, can you do the same thing for a Roomba j series?
The process might be similar, but I doubt it's the same for the J Series.
WD40 destroys grease
I used it to displace the water in the needle bearings after being in the ultrasonic cleaner. I'm confident that a couple drops of WD-40 isn't gonna destroy anything.
First thing I always do when opening a new one is throw the stupid handle out...
That seems like what this shop did too, along with the guards. :) I'm not a pro so the side-handle often comes in handy for me.
Awesome job dude, what are the brushes for? and what's your process for figuring out how to diagnose and kinda reverse engineer the machines to find out what you need to fix? would make an awesome video imo
Thanks! The brushes transfer electricity from the switch to the electric motor. They contact the commutator on one end of the armature which makes it spin inside the stator. The spinning slowly wears the brushes down and they eventually need to be replaced. I'm no pro but if you watch some of my other videos, you'll see how I go about figuring out the problem. For me, fixing things is probably 1/3 cleaning, 1/3 observing, and 1/3 testing. Sometimes you can fix something just by cleaning it. Other times you can physically see the damaged part that need to be replaced. When you can't see anything wrong, that's when the multimeter comes into play to test wires, switches, and motors.
Moral of the story: if not the brushes, you’re looking at a new stator.
In this case, yes. I expected to see at least one bad switch.
@@Mikeattempts me too … mine was a bad switch (connection). Great channel and new sub!
@@RichardT2112 Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it!
@@Mikeattempts happy to be on board!
Nice to see you fixing all the issues and spending the money on stators. Instead of what a lot of videos doing, moving on if it's anything more than a worn out brush. Thanks for breaking down stator testing too.
Yep, I figured it was worth it since these are somewhat expensive grinders. Thanks for the comment!
Would u know about how many sq ft 1 propane tank will burn?
It's hard to say but if I do the whole gravel area (even sections not included in the video), I might use around 1/4 to 1/3 of a standard grill tank. You can use much less propane and wind up with the same results if you just wilt them and don't burn when the weeds are wet. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting doing it when everything is dry and brown either because that would be a major fire hazard.
@@Mikeattempts Thx Mike, Helps with decisions. I got an 80 ft gravel drive way.
great content
Thanks!
You answered my questions. Thanks!
Great, thanks for watching!
Excellent job and video! You have a new subscriber now! You asked for a recommendation on the spring installation. Find a copper pipe fitting just larger than the brush holder in circumference. Slice a ring out of it a little wider than the spring. Install the spring over the copper ring before dropping in the winding. Slip the copper ring with the spring around it over the brush holder and slide the spring off onto the brush holder. I've actually done something similar to this on some hard to access brushes on a starter. You may find yourself at the hardware store staring at copper fittings. Lol! Someone always asks if they can help me. My answer is nope. I can't show you the picture in my head! Hope this can help.
Thanks for the sub! That's a great idea, it would be much easier to stretch them over the pipe before lowering the stator into the housing. There hasta be a tool for this though, right?
@@Mikeattempts I'm sure Makita has a thousand dollar custom air driven model on the factory line. Maybe they'll send you one! Lol! I'm cheap!
@@brainiac_brian Hahaha! I would think there's got to be some sort of cheap hand tool, kinda like snap ring pliers, that spreads the circular spring evenly.
You can wash it in the dishwasher!
Hahaha, no thanks! 😝
Why do the plumbers refuse to use the drain auger?
I'm not sure but I did a follow up video where I dug up the pipe and fixed it properly.
I now feel confident enough that I could repair one of the Makita grinders. Thanks for the video explaining the internal testing in simple terms. You've more than earned my sub

Awesome! I actually have that die grinder They just gave you haha it’s sweet

Thanks for the sub!
Good video. Try washing the cells out and adding battery acid, it can be picked up at car part stores. Adding water simply dilutes the acid. Although adding distilled water is way better than exposed plates.
Oof, I don't think I'd bother with all that for a batter this old. :)
My car clunks a bit when I speed up in first gear is that this problem or something else??
That probably doesn't have anything to do with your clutch fluid but it's hard to say and I'm no pro. It could be something wrong with your clutch or transmission.
Looks like that angle grinder might be 110V?? Our grid is officially 230V here in Australia, but at our house it's actually about 248V most of the time as we are at the end of the power line.
Yep, 110V here in the USA.
I have a 4" Black and Decker angle grinder that is over 50 years old. I've put brushes in it about three times and repaired the switch twice. Not sure if I might have shortened the power cord once to fix a broken wire also. It still works well.
Wow, that's a really long service life with only minimal maintenance and inexpensive repairs. Wouldn't it be nice if all tools were like that?
awesome vid ! good job 10/10
Thanks! :)
Nice presentation. One point, however, it is not good practice to reuse old bearings, It is false economy. I ran and operated an electric motor shop for twenty years, and never re-used old ball bearings if new ones were available, at a reasonable price. These days, 6200 series ball bearings (sealed) can be purchased online for a couple of dollars each from top sources.
Yeah, if they end up sounding too rough, they're easy enough to replace.
Great videos you have. Sometimes the problem can be with the staples. Once we had a batch of faulty staples and staplers were jamming all the time. After checking through every stapler and their parts there were no problems with them. The conclusion was that the staples had just a little bit too much glue between the staples and it was just enough jam the stapler once for a while.
That makes sense, I bet it's much more common for staplers like this to jam than nail guns.
That's a nice solid made in USA bench grinder. Should give you many more years of use.
Yep, it's a beast! :)
Now take them back to the guy who gave them to you
I actually took 2 back to the owner as a "thank you" and then a couple days later he contacted me to buy 2 more. :)
bad idea to use electrical tape on the wire after a few months its just a sticky mess that wont hold togheter (sliding up and down) better to use shrinktube on the area you wanted to expand (talking form experience) i never use electrical tape for anything anymore
Yeah, I know what you mean but the strain boot can't move and the cord is held in place with a clamp so hopefully it'll be alright.
@@Mikeattempts It will be OK. I have done this myself.
Those motors just need to rewound the steel doesnt go bad just the wire
I still have the failed stators and was thinking about doing a video rewinding them, but I've never done it before so I'm gonna need to do some research.
@@Mikeattempts They do a lot of that in Pakistan. But I don't think it would be worth the effort, it's easier to just buy new ones if they are available, which they are for this particular grinder. The materials to do the job might even be more than the new stator.
@@BrucePierson Yeah, I'm sure you're right but it still might be a fun project to see if I could do it and also learn something new. :)
From the moment you took the stator out, I waited to see you struggle to refit the brush coil spring.
Hahaha, there was a lot more struggling that I edited out! :) Once I figured it out with the first one, the other 3 weren't as much of a pain.
90 times out of a 100 its the brushes
Yep, brushes and power cords are the most common culprits.
Wait… grinders aren’t single use?
Hahaha, they are at the shop I picked these ones up from! ;)
Great job. I hate to throw anything away. My wife calls me Fred Sanford when I save something broken.
Thanks! :)
"This was my first time troubleshooting electric motors" 😳
I did a lot of testing off-camera until I had a better understanding, the editing makes me appear smarter than I am. ;)
